Naruto’s world is the result of Third Impact, maybe?
I mean, putting a fourteen year old in charge of an event that could remake the world and getting a quasi-medieval fantasy world with ninjas and bizarrely mismatched technology levels wouldn’t be that much of a stretch.

Well, according to what I can tell, the inner coil system, while not visible from the outside of the body DOES change according to chakra use. It’s more like a system of muscles than a system of organs (well that and circulatory system really), changing not only size but shape depending on amount and type of use. That’s why you need the Byakugan to manipulate it, instead of being able to rely entirely on memorization. They say it’s invisible to the normal eye, but no one ways if that’s because it’s literally invisible or because it happens to be inside your body. Either one makes targeting in combat difficult for non-Hyuuga. The second allows post-mortem study.
Even the first does if there’s a technique that does something like light it up in a corpse by pushing your chakra through the now empty coils.
Also how effectively are these things covered up? Isn’t it more likely many of them are things people are aware of in general but just don’t talk about?

As i mentioned above, it’s not a matter of his upbringing being ’similar’ to canon; a large part of NGE canon is carried over intact to this fic. I have an explanation for this, though i dunno if i want to dole out any spoilers here, as i intend to continue writing it at some point. At any rate, the Shinji in my NGE/Naruto crossover/fusion is very much like the Shinji from NGE, which makes for some fun ‘what the hell is wrong with these people’ opportunities, but also makes certain ‘transitions’ difficult…

Indeed… though sometimes it kind of stretches the imagination, how ‘effectively’ these things are covered up…

Aside from really weird stuff like post-mortem mind reading and reanimation, i would guess that some types of techniques take their toll on the body over time; perhaps there’s a way to examine the inner coil system as well.

Well his character also depends a lot on how much like canon his upbringing will be. What happens after all if his parents are ninja? If both are still alive, just his mother? Just Gendo? Neither? If third impact didn’t happen? If he’s been trained since he was 6 to fight?

That would obviously change his character radically. So it’s actually very reasonable to say he is just as much of a bastard as his father is. And actually manipulates his enviorment masterfully with genjutzu?

Or is he a real berserk all the time?

Or can you somehow find a justification for him beeing a confused scared kid in way over his head like in canon… Actually scratch that, a fresh genin is just that in a live or dead battle… or well should be. Of course that’s boring^^

That sounds logical.

Also there would most likely also be specialized people who dealt with corpses. A corpse is a great way to gain info on bloodlines and techniques both for enemies and the village itself.

Even though I don’t think it’s mentioned in the canon it would’t suprise me if each village either had a own squad or a sub-branch in ANBU that is specialized in finding and dealing with missing-nins (both foreign and from their own village)after they were dead.

Such specialists would probably either tag-along/after hunter-nins or be speciallized hunter or medic-nin. They would probably also perform tasks like examine bodies of ‘former’ prisoners and dispose of corpses.

But that would be an interesting thing to read about…i mean when Hinata was little they tried to kidnap her just to find out their secrets. And konoha isn’t the peaceful loving village that everyone thinks it is.

Look at the whole uchiha massacre, and the secrets of who naruto’s father was (even if it’s blatantly obvious). The whole ROOT organization, and the interrogation section Ibiki leads.

I’d really like to know how they find out information on special techniques from corpses.

Well i wasn’t planning in making him a character like that; that’s just the only reason i could think of for why canon Shinji might be sanguine about being a ninja – and the Children in ‘Lesser Known villages’ are not ‘fusion’ characters in the traditional sense. Their history in Evangelion canon is intact, up to a point – though i haven’t explained how that’s even possible yet…

I bet at least some of them do and not just for reasons that Orochimaru would enjoy. I bet a decent number of missing nins would be willing to become defectors after the fact (and some of them might be skilled enough and just enough lacking in crazy for that to be acceptable). That kind of things probrably kept under the table if the place they left has a treaty with the place taking them in, though.
It’s a good way (besides the Sharingan) to account for some of the technique cross-pollination that occurs between villages.
