Hmm… why is there a sprawling discussion of a hypothetical Naruto/Elfen Lied fusion fic in my story draft thread O_o;?
Oh wait – it looks like i started it; stupid me =_=;…
Anyhow, given that the topic of ‘crossover’ and ‘fusion’ stories has been near and dear to my heart since i started writing fanfiction, but it definitely doesn’t belong in a ‘Suiren’ thread, i’ve decided to just put up a separate ‘writing’ post for it. Any further discussion on this topic should go here…
I was also kinda wondering how this discussion came to be. Though discussing possible crossovers are sort of fun so I’ll continue. As a response to Eimii’s latest comment I have this.
In the manga (v03 ch26) it is revealed that there have existed Diclonii (ore something similar) before and that in a spesific clan there there are sometimes born kids with (undeveloped) horn-like growts on their head, but without any powers.
The member of this clan that talks about this (and his father) has these undeveloped horn and he reffers to himself as a diclonius. He says this to Lucy:
“My family has passed such linage for generations. Among my relatives horned children were born. Due to that wee were labeled as demons… We’ve been hated and despised for ages. [...]However… In process of crossbreeding with homo sapiens our blood has gotten weak. All that’s left are these horns. The power similar to yours didn’t stay. But you are not like us. In you due to mutations, the pure horned one is reborn. We the family have been axiously looking for blood of a true horned one. With you the foolish humans who scorned our kind would surely fall…”
Lucy is refered to as a mutant in the series, but my guess it that it might be a recessive gene or something similar. We never get to know Lucy’s parentage, only that she was abandoned as a baby. Though both her parents could have belonged to that clan.
In a Naruto/Elfen lied crossover, this could be a powerfull bloodline ability that had died out long ago and pretty much been forgotten/become a myth. Or have been intentionally exterminated. Then it could reoccur either by chance (to carriers having a kid) or intentionally (science, experiment or selected ‘breeding’).
Such a child would most likely either be killed or confined and used/experimented on if it was known. If it’s existence wasn’t known the paren’t would most likely either abandon the child (like in Elfen Lied) or try to hide the fact that their child wasn’t normal. Either out of shame or to protect it.

If anyone is interested in watching the Elfen Lied anime or reading the manga I can leave links to both a site with all manga volumes and a site where one can wacth all the anime episodes.
You’re idea of a Naruto/Elfen Lied crossover sounds interesting, but it seems more like Elfen Lied plus some cool ninja techniques.
Approaching the whole diclonii thing as a bloodline limit would probably be the best way to incorporate it into the Naruto-verse, but after getting freakish bloodline limits like whatever clan Haku hailed from (seriously, I honestly think that the ability to control water/ice would be far more deadly – but that’s the Avatar fangirl deep within me that was squealing when Katara learned to bloodbend), the Hyuuga clan, and the downright god-like Uchiha, I doubt people would care about telekinesis. Especially if over-usage results in melting. Even without that little side-effect, what’s the point of the “power” (which would be limited to a certain area) when a ninja has shuriken/kunai/flashier-deadlier jutsu to kill, increased training to jump/run huge distances, and medical ninjutsu to heal.
At that point, the only thing worth experimenting on with the diclonii would be the telekinesis’ ability to kill in the blink of an eye… but on that note, I could probably see Danzo, if a diclonii bloodline existed, getting involved, just to breed his perfect little soldiers. Then again, he would have to do serious brain-washing work to get rid of the manic, bloodthirsty tendencies.
Diclonii melt if they overuse their telekinesis? That does sound like an unfortunate defect O_o;…
Yeah, the problem with crossing Naruto with nearly anything that isn’t a shounen series is the blatant power level disparities. In theory, though, the ‘vectors’ would probably serve as a pretty good ‘near-absolute defense,’ since they’ve been shown to stop low-caliber bullets (i’ve read the first chapter of the manga, now), and drones become stronger with each ‘generation,’ of removal from the queen, in exchange for ever shortening life-spans.
By wikipedia, the only living example of a third-generation ‘drone’ diclonus had an effective range of about 11 meters, and could control 50 super-strong telekinetic ‘hands’ at once. I think i also read somewhere that vectors can be made almost mono-molecularly sharp as well. An army of those with some level of combat training+animal instinct would be reasonably scary.
I don’t think the range thing is such a big issue; most ninja techniques that aren’t used by living gods seem to have a maximum range of less than 50 meters. An untrained Diclonus would probably be able to kill most genin. A ninja-trained one, however… considering that, unlike most ninja equivalents, using vectors is as instinctive as using normal limbs, they’d have multiple, very dangerous ‘hands’ to fight with while leaving their real hands free to perform seals. That’s a non-trivial advantage.
They don’t melt if they overuse their powers. -_-; Somebody got something mixed up.
However there is one way of preventing them from using the vektors. A diclonius in physical pain is unable to use her vectors (probably has to do with consentration).
I’ve started reading the rest of the manga now (had read to vol 5? before and is at vol 9 now) and I now know some new facts:
So far Theres been examples of vectors being used to cut, move/destroy internal veins, punch/push, pull and also seems to be able to make bodies (at least partly explode). The vectors ban also be used to move the diclonus aroung and allows them to sort of hover and change directions in the air. The vectors can pass through and solidify at the will of the diclonious.
The vectors starts to develope at age 3 and their strenght and range improves with age (not sure about about numbers). At that age the child also develops their killing instinct and do things like riping limbs of people as though they were bugs.
The bee example I used is actually accurate and used in the manga (creepy…), vol07 ch62 p35-35.
The Diclonii was actually originally
Whoops, pressed the submit button by accident.
Anyways there’s a lot of Diclonii history in vol10 ch86 and vol11 (and its pretty far out there -_-;…)
Also I’ve now come to the end and it seems I was wrong. They can actually melt due to entropy if they really overuse the power.
Hmm… by making it into a ‘legendary bloodline,’ it kinda feels like we’re getting into ‘cheap, annoying power-up’ territory again, though. I would say that if it has a history, it should be an ugly history, and Diclonii should mostly be considered dangerous abominations. After all, they have the potential to completely wipe out entire clans. Even if they lose every battle, as long as they manage to ‘infect’ enough members of the clan, and in a generation or two the clan is dead.
For how they arise, i think that as a story conceit it would probably be most interesting to assume that ‘queens’ can be born to any normal human couple at a very low rate of incidence. I would also say that the killer instinct/lack of empathy for humans should be partially genetic; it makes for a good character flaw, and by saying that it’s not completely genetic and not completely learned, it opens the door for moral questions about whether or not it can be controlled well enough that humans and Diclonii can coexist.
They probably shouldn’t be called ‘Diclonii’ though, and ‘demon’ has a specific meaning in the Naruto world as well. Hmm…
Oh i like this discussion…well you could alway’s make it that before the villages where created the Hyuga or another prominent clans could have teamed up and whipped them out because of their volatile nature.
I can totally see the Hyuga having the advantage if they use their eyes. They can see chakra so they’d be able to see the invisible hands. Plus if they hit specific chakra points it could make the hands immobile. And then there’s the deal with if they loose their horns they can’t use them either…but i can so see them using their arms for throwing and blocking things.
And you could even use the same weakness as that concealment jutsu with the smoke or tall grass…but then again it seems as the hands can go through things…it could still maybe cause a displacement in the air…i guess
I’m guessing if hypothetically if you or someone else does make a crossover they’d take out the part where the Diclonii isn’t viral, or make it so that it has a very high death rate when infected. If that were true it would also cause alianation for the child as well. (Sort of like HIV or AIDS in a way…no one wants to die because of contamination).
And ‘demon’ does sound more like how other clans might see the clan. You could also put that because of their volatile nature all the clans have thought them barbaric and not worth being called a prestigious clan. I mean look at Kimimaro he had a crazy cool bloodline with all the bones, nobody really talks/knows about them. And they were all whipped out because of their blood lust. But then again they were from another country, it doesn’t sound like the academy really teaches them about other country bloodlines…or maybe it’s just naruto…
You could make them fight against the Kaguya (Kimimaro’s clan), and have them wipe each other out or something…lol i’m just grasping at straws now…lol
This is all just hypothetically speaking of course.
Hmm… i dunno; when planning crossover/fusion stories, special care has to be taken regarding what elements of each source you want to keep unchanged, and what elements you want to modify or remove alltogether. Using my limited understanding of Elfen Lied as an example, each individual trait of the Diclonii can be seen as a separate narrative device that is to some degree important to the story the author was trying to tell:
The ability to infect baseline humans with the Diclonus virus, causing all of their offspring to be born as ‘drone’ Diclonii, is a device used to explore the one of the central themes of Elfen Lied: inter-species conflict, and the genetic imperative to become the dominant species in a particular evolutionary niche by driving all of your competitors to extinction. I would say that this is one element that definitely cannot be removed from an Elfen Lied crossover/fusion without completely removing the point of even making the story an Elfen Lied crossover.
Without the infectious aspect, the modified Diclonii would really become ‘just another new bloodline.’ Because Diclonii actually have to put a vector through someone’s head to infect them, without killing them in the process, i would say that the chance of infection is not terribly high unless the Diclonii are actually attacking with the intent to infect; vectors are pretty lethal as long as you are within their range, and most Diclonii would attack with the full intent to kill, especially when faced with an enemy as deadly as a Naruto ninja.
The ‘genocide instinct’ or lack of empathy that Diclonii seem to feel humand beings is another element used to explore this theme. This element is also used to explore another central theme of Elfen Lied: the roles that ‘nature’ and ‘nurture’ play in the development of personality. This is a theme in Naruto as well, as exemplified by the comparisons between the various ‘broken’ or abused children in the series (Naruto, Gaara, Sasuke, Neji, Lee, etc.) As such, i think this would be a good element to keep in tact – especially with regard to the evident ambiguity on the subject as far as the Diclonii are concerned.
The idea that ‘overusing’ vectors causes entropy that can eventually build to fatal levels is a more ‘functional’ story element; it’s a way to limit a power that otherwise had very few limitations. As presented, using vectors requires only a limited amount of focus or concentration, and did not cause physical or mental fatigue. Without any downside, a diclonus could use their vectors constantly without any penalty at all, as long as someone wasn’t punching them in the face every two seconds. By saying that ‘using vectors causes entropy,’ the author introduced an element of danger; the body can compensate for a certain amount of entroy within its systems, but too much can be dangerous or fatal.
If one were to change the way that vectors function by saying that they are ‘chakra-based,’ that would change the game completely. All chakra-based abilities are in some aspect stamina-limited, causing physical fatigue as they are used, and thus the ‘entropy limiter’ would not be necessary. Diclonii would probably all have innately perfect chakra control and the trait of ‘instinctive chakra control,’ which would allow them to form ‘ghost limbs’ from their chakra that effectively have Tsunade-level strength and the ability to selectively phase through matter. Other abilities demonstrated, such as the ability to operate on a microscopic level to repair cellular damage or the ability to vibrate at high frequency to cut through objects might be trainable rather than instinctve.
Alternately, one could maintain that ‘Diclonii are different’ and have vectors remain a purely ‘mental’ or ’spiritual’ ability that is governed only by the ability to at least partially focus on the task. In this case, the ‘entropy limit’ would probably have to remain. Diclonii would have to be careful not to exert themselves beyond the point that their bodies can handle. Most of the time they seem to do this anyway; it’s only when Lucy starts to use her vectors to literally tear apart japan on a truly apocalyptic scale that she starts to rapidly deteriorate. Levels beyond what is ‘comfortable’ but below what would be considered a ‘weapon of mass destruction’ would probably be survivable, but still cause injury over time.
Another aspect of this particular change to consider would be that chakra-based vectors would be visible to the sharingan and byakugan, and things that affect chakra/chakra control would affect them as well. I would say that the closing of body tentketsu would not impair their use, however, as the horns seem to be the part of the body that allows their use. Breaking off both horns prevents their use until the horns regrow. This limitation would be the same for non-chakra-based vectors, but in that case they would likely not be visible even to the sharingan, and things that affect chakra would likely not affect vectors…
And that’s all i have time to say on this at the moment O_o;…
I don’t think it has to be the head. As long as it phases into the body of that person and that person isn’t killed afterward I think it’s enough for an infection.
The reason why some/most of the infected people got infected after being ‘touched’ in the brain I belive is for another reason. One of the best (less obvious) ways for a Diclonus to kill is to let a vector pass into the brain and then move/destroy a vein inside a persons so that he/she dies on the spot. This move is also used to threaten. The Diclonii will phase a vector partly into a hostages brain without hurting it and then treathen to kill it.
Some of these hostages are the few to survive to then have kids. The others that survives does so mostly because the Diclonus either is distracted during battle or purposely infects the person.
As for range, remember that the vectors also can throw stuff at greath strengt, so their reach is in a sense also longer than their vectors.
As for what creates the vectors, both a overly developed part of the brain and own special organs are mentioned in the manga. If one in the naruto-verse was to block (like the Hyuuga’s does)the chacra sirculation to those organs the Diclonus might not be able to produce vectors. However getting close enough to do so might be quite a problem.
I don’t think the vectors themself needs/uses any chacra, but the organs that produces them might need chacra to (fully) function.
The horns seems to be some sort of transmission device(?), perhaps like the antennae of a radio. Breaking them will temporarely stop the diclonii from using vectors, untill they regrow. This process seems to take about half a year at regular speed, but also seems to happen much faster when the Diclonus is in danger/under attack.
Breaking/filing off the horns might be something a desperate parent would do. It would hurt the child but temporarely make it ‘normal’ and no danger to others.
I’m very sure the vector has to pass through the head… somewhere in the manga, it’s described that the vectors were the result of an enlarged penal gland – found in the brain. I can only assume that the vectors, when touching the head, specifically touch that part of the brain, or some part, that makes sure the kids are future mutants. How, is beyond me.
The use of the horns, however, is beyond me. Obviously, a boy could have the horns and not have vectors, but a girl with horns has the vectors.
And even then, if someone were to do an Elfen Lied/Naruto crossover, he or she would have to keep in mind that the vector – in my opinion – isn’t just unrestrained, unlimited power (like the Sharingan). The little girl who had over 50 vectors (I cannot believe I forgot her name) couldn’t walk (although, I barely remember if it was a side effect of her mutation, or something done to physically keep her dependent on the group of scientists controlling her), and the other girl – the one who had her arms and legs lopped off – was aging at a ridiculous rate: her mind was around 7-years-old while her body was at 14.
Elfen Lied was approaching the diclonii thing – again, imo – as a mutation. Lucy – the only diclonii that wasn’t as physically handicapped as the girls I just mentioned – was a first generation, and although she was “queen”, the only determining factor in her fight against the little girl was the fact that the little girl had explosives inside her body; aside from that, it was mentioned that Lucy might not stand a chance against the little girl. (Srsly, does anyone remember her name?) It almost strikes me that the further the mutation is passed on, the more power the diclonii gains, but that diclonii would be facing huge physical handicaps.
With Elfen Lied in relation to the Naruto!verse, if, in the Elfen Lied!verse, a group of non-ninja _scientists_ (albeit, government funded scientists) had the ability to get their hands on the diclonii, then I think that if a diclonii was magically discovered in Naruto!world, some ninja faction would easily be able to hone a diclonii to a living weapon.
The author of the Elfen Lied manga, though, could only possibly guess what controls the vector – the manga is too developed for it to be simple magic. If diclonii were magically dropped into ninja world, though, I could only assume that the best way to explain how they control their mutation would be through physical ki (????????). Using chakra to control their vectors would not only give diclonii extreme chakra control, but also (I would guess) naturally large chakra arsenals.
The little girls name was Mariko and the reason why she had severe problems moving was that she had been confined in a ‘cell’ since she was a baby and only been feed just enough pure nutrion to keep her alive. Therefore had moved very little and had extremely little muscle mass.
This was true for the other diclonii as well. Those who were handicapped was so due to neglect, abuse and ijuries, it was not natural and had nothing to do wit genes.
What do you mean by “further the mutation is passed on,” all the ‘drone/sepelit’ dicloni was either sterile children born from a couple with an infected parent or clones of cuch children.
The reason why Mariko was such a special case might be due to the fact that in her case both parents had been infected.
The other particulary strong diclonii was just clones (exact genetical copies) of her that had undergone modification so that they would be contralable.
The reason why the other diclonii was at par with Lucy could be due to the fact that they unlike her had been trained and honed from very early childhood. They had also most likely undervent hormone treatments and similar in order for them to develope fast physically and powervise.
Their childish behavior is most likely also caused by the neglect/abuse and lack of normal human interaction. The scientists would have wanted them passive and dependent on them.
But at the end Lucy’s horns developes/grows and she shows (and rather dramaticly so =_=;…) that she truly is a queen and the strongest of them.
Also the males with (undeveloped) horns (with one exeption) wasn’t actually Diclonii. They were just humans who were far decendants of (what they belived was) Diclonii/demons.
Though i think we may be thinking about this too hard for a fic that i don’t think anyone here is planning on writing (i dunno about you folks, but i certainly don’t have time to do it -_-;), if wikipedia is to be believed:
-Physically, Diclonii differ from humans only in that they have an enlarged pineal gland in the brain, two horn-like protrusions on sides of the head and red eyes; in the anime, they also all have pink hair
-Vector contact with the pineal gland in the brain of a normal human causes a virus-like ‘infection’ that rewrites the reproductive DNA of the victim
-Silpelit or ‘drone’ Diclonii are born to human couples when one or both parents have been infected with the ‘Diclonius virus’
-True or ‘queen’ Diclonii born in a very low incidence to uninfected human couples; presumably, they can also be born to ‘Queen’/Human couples
-Silpelits differ from True Diclonii in that they are sterile, age at roughly twice the rate of normal humans, and appear to have greater ‘baseline’ ability with their vectors; they can manifest vectors in greater numbers, at greater range and with greater strength than True Diclonii can before causing their bodies to begin to deteriorate due to entropy
-The enlarged pineal gland is the source of Diclonii’s telekinetic and telepathic powers, and the ‘horns’ of Diclonii seem to serve as transmission antenna. Removing one horn will impair a Diclonius’s powers and removing both will prevent them from using their powers at all until the horns regrow; the removal of the horns is also indicated to be a traumatic experience that can potentially induce lethargy or even catatonia
One alternate explanation of the rapid aging and perhaps even the sterility of Silpelits might be that their ‘power advantage’ over True Diclonii is actually the result of looser instinctive ’safety limits’ on their powers. If they are constantly using their powers at ‘dangerous’ levels, the entropy buildup might cause sterility and accelerated aging.
Okay, I accidentally posted on this topic on your Suiren post because I didn’t notice this entry, my apologies.
Now, it occured to me that I don’t know how Naruto treats mixed bloodlines. But someone like Orochimaru or Danzo would probably love the idea of a Diclonius with Hyuuga eyes because then you could attack through objects and see through objects. The potential for a horrendous assassin is bad if you can launch invisible attacks from a separate room and even nastier if you know some earth burrowing techniques.
I think you just reminded me that anyone who would want to do this kind of crossover would need to have a lot of time on their hands to figure out the logic (if its even possible to use that in Naruto!verse) behind it all.
Sorting out the Naruto world is hard enough, but Elfen Lied – again, imo – was more or less designed so that the audience has to speculate on the entire Diclonius nature.
Eh, if i had the time and the interest (and enough knowledge of Elfen Lied), i think i could probably hammer out the logic to my liking… but at the moment, i don’t think i could write a compelling story around this concept =_=;…
If i were to write this story, i would definitely say that the Diclonius virus overwrites the DNA enough that other bloodlines are unlikely to manifest; bloodline combos are just too ridiculously overpowered…
That’s okay, I’d expect you couldn’t carry and manifest both genes. That’s why mad science brought us the experimental surgery!f
In fact, I always assumed the extreme methods done to dispose of ninja corpses are partially out of fear of guys Frankenstein-ing together terribly powerful abominations–like Kakashi, really.
That’s probably at least part of it. In the world of Suiren, i’m thinking that most villages probably have ‘body snatcher’ teams – teams of hunter nins that try to track down and capture the missing nins of other villages before the hunter nins of their home villages get them…
I bet at least some of them do and not just for reasons that Orochimaru would enjoy. I bet a decent number of missing nins would be willing to become defectors after the fact (and some of them might be skilled enough and just enough lacking in crazy for that to be acceptable). That kind of things probrably kept under the table if the place they left has a treaty with the place taking them in, though.
It’s a good way (besides the Sharingan) to account for some of the technique cross-pollination that occurs between villages.
But that would be an interesting thing to read about…i mean when Hinata was little they tried to kidnap her just to find out their secrets. And konoha isn’t the peaceful loving village that everyone thinks it is.
Look at the whole uchiha massacre, and the secrets of who naruto’s father was (even if it’s blatantly obvious). The whole ROOT organization, and the interrogation section Ibiki leads.
I’d really like to know how they find out information on special techniques from corpses.
That sounds logical.
Also there would most likely also be specialized people who dealt with corpses. A corpse is a great way to gain info on bloodlines and techniques both for enemies and the village itself.
Even though I don’t think it’s mentioned in the canon it would’t suprise me if each village either had a own squad or a sub-branch in ANBU that is specialized in finding and dealing with missing-nins (both foreign and from their own village)after they were dead.
Such specialists would probably either tag-along/after hunter-nins or be speciallized hunter or medic-nin. They would probably also perform tasks like examine bodies of ‘former’ prisoners and dispose of corpses.
If such things exist in canon, then you can bet that Orochimaru would have been on a squad like that at some point…
Response to (this) post: Yeah, one of the major advantages of vectors would indeed be that they are normally invisible.
Regarding Shinji, the only way i can currently rationalize him making it as a ninja is if he’s secretly a Vash the Stampede-level badass, and good enough take out all of his enemies in a totally non-lethal fashion. In my story, i made him a ‘genjutsu’ type, so i suppose that might be possible, and i definitely made Asuka a brawler. I have all of the Children’s signature jutsu drafted out as well, and i think they’re pretty neat, but i think that story is on hold until i get done with Suiren -_-;…
Well, remember that Shinji’s prone to going berzerk (that’s not just unit O1 that does all the blind charging) when he’s pushed far enough.
So I’d picture him running and hiding and maybe manipulating people with Genjutsu to render them vulnerable to his allies, until his back was against the wall at least.
Of course, thoughtless attacks aren’t always the best way to deal with situations.
Ugh… i suppose this is somewhat true, but in canon Shinji never lashes out in anger at any human human being except for his father; his father is the only person that he can justify as less worthy of living than himself. >_<;
And if he did go nuts, i don’t expect a genjutsu specialist is going to have a lot of attacks that work better while in a berserker rage…
Neither do I, for that matter. But the point was at least as much about his flaws as anything else.
Besides, canon Shinji isn’t backed into a corner by human beings using lethal force until the end (and then he’s outgunned), unlike theoretical ninja Shinji.
Oh well, whatever’s fun to write. Be careful making someone like Vash, because Vash can be one of those borderline-too-strong characters unless his opponents are strong enough to make him drop most of his act. Plus he’s a centuries old superhuman, not a young ninja.
Well i wasn’t planning in making him a character like that; that’s just the only reason i could think of for why canon Shinji might be sanguine about being a ninja – and the Children in ‘Lesser Known villages’ are not ‘fusion’ characters in the traditional sense. Their history in Evangelion canon is intact, up to a point – though i haven’t explained how that’s even possible yet…
Naruto’s world is the result of Third Impact, maybe?
I mean, putting a fourteen year old in charge of an event that could remake the world and getting a quasi-medieval fantasy world with ninjas and bizarrely mismatched technology levels wouldn’t be that much of a stretch.
Well his character also depends a lot on how much like canon his upbringing will be. What happens after all if his parents are ninja? If both are still alive, just his mother? Just Gendo? Neither? If third impact didn’t happen? If he’s been trained since he was 6 to fight?
That would obviously change his character radically. So it’s actually very reasonable to say he is just as much of a bastard as his father is. And actually manipulates his enviorment masterfully with genjutzu?
Or is he a real berserk all the time?
Or can you somehow find a justification for him beeing a confused scared kid in way over his head like in canon… Actually scratch that, a fresh genin is just that in a live or dead battle… or well should be. Of course that’s boring^^
As i mentioned above, it’s not a matter of his upbringing being ’similar’ to canon; a large part of NGE canon is carried over intact to this fic. I have an explanation for this, though i dunno if i want to dole out any spoilers here, as i intend to continue writing it at some point. At any rate, the Shinji in my NGE/Naruto crossover/fusion is very much like the Shinji from NGE, which makes for some fun ‘what the hell is wrong with these people’ opportunities, but also makes certain ‘transitions’ difficult…
Indeed… though sometimes it kind of stretches the imagination, how ‘effectively’ these things are covered up…
Aside from really weird stuff like post-mortem mind reading and reanimation, i would guess that some types of techniques take their toll on the body over time; perhaps there’s a way to examine the inner coil system as well.
Well, according to what I can tell, the inner coil system, while not visible from the outside of the body DOES change according to chakra use. It’s more like a system of muscles than a system of organs (well that and circulatory system really), changing not only size but shape depending on amount and type of use. That’s why you need the Byakugan to manipulate it, instead of being able to rely entirely on memorization. They say it’s invisible to the normal eye, but no one ways if that’s because it’s literally invisible or because it happens to be inside your body. Either one makes targeting in combat difficult for non-Hyuuga. The second allows post-mortem study.
Even the first does if there’s a technique that does something like light it up in a corpse by pushing your chakra through the now empty coils.
Also how effectively are these things covered up? Isn’t it more likely many of them are things people are aware of in general but just don’t talk about?
